According to Insider Gaming, while developing its upcoming title OD, Kojima Productions partnered for roughly a year with Eidos Montreal—renowned for titles like Tomb Raider—before ending the collaboration. The termination followed Kojima’s insistence that the development team relocate to Japan, which halted the project at Eidos Montreal.
Insiders further revealed that the game, originally named Overdose, had been in development at Eidos Montreal in 2023 under the code name P21 for nearly a year. Work at the studio ceased after Kojima Productions demanded the team move to Japan and cut ties with Eidos. Around twenty developers were reportedly involved when this request was made.

The OD development saga first surfaced in November 2022 following a leak: a figure known as The Snitch extracted a two‑minute clip from YouTube’s backstage and released it publicly. The footage showed Mama—played by Marguerite Quill—in a blue dress, and it also disclosed the code name Overdose.
During the 2023 Game Awards ceremony, Hideo Kojima and director Jordan Peele officially announced the title as OD, noting that it might provoke polarized responses. In September 2025, a new trailer titled Knock was released.

OD’s journey has been fraught with obstacles. The 2024‑25 SAG‑AFTRA strike against video game production pushed filming into 2026. Shockingly, on November 23, 2025, German actor Udo Kiel—scheduled to star in the game—passed away at 81.
