After a delay, the Switch version of Doom Eternal has finally been released, albeit only as a digital download, which is preferable to cancellation. Due to the console’s limited performance, its graphics inevitably fall short of other platforms. On December 9, international media released a comparison video showcasing the differences between running Doom Eternal on Switch versus PS4 Pro. The Switch port was still handled by Panic Button, the team that previously adapted Doom and the original Team Fortress 2. In earlier projects they had employed viewport cropping to eliminate distant scenery for optimization purposes. In this comparison video, aside from typical adjustments like reduced resolution and fewer visual effects, the gameplay still looks respectable, which is acceptable for a handheld that can let you unleash havoc anywhere. They also used a few tricks, such as adding black bars at the top and bottom during narrative scenes to ease the load on Switch. The Switch version of Doom Eternal is now available, and the developers intend to release additional DLCs.
